Renewable Energy Technology is Now Powerful Enough to Significantly Soften the Climate Crisis

In order for the world to begin to solve the climate crisis, one critical thing has to happen. Global carbon emissions need to start falling. And they need to start falling soon before the serious impacts that we are already seeing considerably worsen and begin to overwhelm us.

Carbon Emissions Plateau For Last Three Years

Over the past three years, countries around the world have been engaged in a major switch away from the biggest carbon emitter — coal. China is shutting down hundreds of its worst polluting coal plants, India is following suit, the U.S. is shuttering many of its own facilities, and in Europe the trend is much the same. Around the world, investment in new coal fired plants continues to fall even as the old plants are pressured more and more to halt operations.

  1. Poor Robert Fanney. He really believes that if he doesn’t post occasional silliness like this that he failed the planet or something. When he sticks to his expertise, he is the best. When he posts this drivel, he is just embarrassing himself, and insulting his readers.

    For example:
“countries around the world have been engaged in a major switch away from the biggest carbon emitter — coal.”
Yes, because gas is cheaper. It has nothing to do with anything but the economics. Incidentally, fracked gas has a higher CO2 equivalent loading on the atmosphere than coal. By the way, China is still increasing the number of coal fired plants in service.

The chart he shows indicates that CO2 emissions have fallen. A half truth. The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere – the only measure that really matters – is increasing at an increasing rate. CO2 emissions have dropped as the result of a slowdown in the global economy.

The lies and half truths just keep coming throughout the article, and I think that Mr. Fanney knows it. Its just that he can’t admit the actual reality.
